The Nintendo 64 - A True Gaming Revolutionary

Nintendo has always been a company that takes risks. They were the first to introduce motion controls to gaming with the Wii, and they were also the first to introduce 3D graphics to console gaming with the Nintendo 64. And while the Wii was a runaway success, the same can't be said for the Nintendo 64. In fact, when it was released in 1996, it was met with widespread skepticism. Critics didn't think that 3D graphics would take off, and they thought that the cartridge-based format would be a hindrance to developers. But despite all of the skepticism, the Nintendo 64 went on to become one of the most beloved gaming consoles of all time. Here's why.

Reasons the Nintendo 64 Was Awesome

1. The games were incredible. When people think of the Nintendo 64, they usually think of classic games like Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and GoldenEye 007. And there's good reason for that - those are some of the best games ever made. Not only that, but they were also some of the first truly 3D games ever made. When you factor in all of the other great games that were released on the Nintendo 64 (like Banjo Kazooie, Perfect Dark, and Super Smash Bros.), it's easy to see why it's considered one of the greatest gaming consoles of all time.

2. It had four controller ports. One of the best things about the Nintendo 64 was that it had four controller ports built-in. That meant that up to four people could play together at once - something that was practically unheard of at the time. And while four-player gaming is now commonplace, back then it was a real game-changer. If you wanted to have a party and play video games with your friends, you didn't need any extra hardware - just an extra controller or two. That made things a lot simpler (and a lot more fun).

3. The graphics were mind-blowing (for their time). At a time when 2D graphics were still king, the Nintendo 64 blew everyone away with its immersive 3D worlds. Super Mario 64 is often cited as one of the earliest examples of what 3D gaming could really be like, and Ocarina of Time is widely considered to be one of the best-looking games ever made - even 20 years later. The graphics may not look impressive by today's standards, but at the time they were nothing short of revolutionary.

The Nintendo 64 is often overshadowed by its successor -the similarly named but much more successful Gamecube-, but that doesn't mean it isn't deserving of its place in history as one of the greatest gaming consoles ever made. Thanks to its incredible library of games, simple party setup, and groundbreaking graphics, the Nintendo 64 truly deserves its place in video game history as a true gaming revolutionary.
